GROUP EXERCISE Program Assistant
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Provide assistance to the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator with Program and Instructor Development, as well as supervision of the Group Exercise Staff and Facilities. One year prior experience as a URI Campus Rec Group Ex Instructor required. One semester prior experience in a supervisory role preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS: Group Ex Program Assistants must have previous experience as a group exercise instructor and show signs that they are ready to take on a leadership/advisory role. Must be reliable, responsible, have sound judgment, good interpersonal skills, and be comfortable providing peers with constructive feedback.
- One year prior experience as group ex instructor with URI Campus Rec
- CPR/AED certification required.
- Current certification in one or more nationally recognized group exercise certification programs (AFAA, ACE, NASM and/or specialty certifications)
- Communication and problem solving skills required.
- Social media proficiency preferred.
- Strong proficiency in word documents and spreadsheets (Microsoft and Google drive)
- experience operating teleconference platforms preferred
EXPECTED HOURS: Instructor ~ 2-4 hrs/week; Office/Admin ~ 4-8 hrs/wk; Additional flex time as needed. Leaders must be available to work early morning and late evening shifts, weekends, and holidays. *Recreation facilities are open year-round, with additional opportunities to work during J-Term, Spring Break, and summer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (shared):
- Provide an excellent example of group exercise teaching skills, following all certification guidelines and Campus Rec program practices.
- Offer guidance and assistance to novice instructors.
- Lead new instructor orientation and on-boarding training sessions
- Assist in planning, presenting, and reporting outcomes for staff trainings
- Weekly upkeep of 4 studios, equipment maintenance, repair/replace requests
- Organize and provide weekly scripts for class announcements
- Bi-annual inventory of all group ex studios
- Maintain instructor files, including certification due dates, evals, and performance reports
- Maintain program participation records, submit end-of-semester program reports
- Assist with class scheduling. registration, and participant admin duties
- Assist in planning, promoting, presenting, and evaluating In-House Instructor training (GEM program)
- Attend and assist with planning and promotion of special events, activities, incentives
- Represent the group ex program and the department of Campus Recreation at University-wide events, as needed
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAININGS:
- Attend and lead department-wide and program/facility specific ongoing trainings/workshops, that are offered throughout the time of employment
- Maintain current CPR/AED certification
- Maintain current Group Exercise Certification
